Even though I’m more of a “sit and stare at tree” kinda girl, I do find little moments of loving being in KL city too. In a way, it’s become a photographers’ playground and I have also formed many memories in many little corners of the city.
This shoot though was a bit more special because Yi Kuan grew up in the corners of Petaling Street, and it was so fun seeing my playground through the eyes of her younger self! Even more special because it was a shared experience with Gene Yan, who grew up in Pahang. I always find it interesting (and beautiful), how two people from different lives end up finding home in each other.
Quoting from a show I’ve been obsessed with recently, “Yes, life can suck. It can be unbearable and brutal and ugly and heartbreaking. But it’s also beautiful... and hilarious.” - The Pitt. These two are exactly like that. They’re like best friends, a rival pair in school, an old couple who bickers but helps wash each other’s bottle after a long day out. It’s the simple, little things that weigh the most, and fuel us in times of chaos.
When I was choosing a song for them, it has to be Yellow Submarine 😂 It just encapsulates their dynamic so well- childlike, innocent and free.
