TWO ERAS, ONE SKY
There is a quiet, striking friction captured in. Down on the ground, a Kuala Lumpur alleyway hums with a raw, unpretentious energy. It’s a scene deeply rooted in everyday life, the silhouette of swaying palms, the weathered checkerboard facades of old shophouses, and the warm, golden spill of neon from a neighborhood kopitiam keeping the night alive.
But look up through the gaps of these heritage roofs, and the narrative shifts entirely. Towering over the old world is Merdeka 118. As the planet’s second-tallest building, this futuristic monolith literally pierces the dark, its sharp geometric edges lit up in electric blues and purples. It’s an incredible piece of architecture, its angles are actually a modern nod to traditional songket fabric, that stands as a bold statement of where Malaysia is heading. What makes the shot work so well is this exact juxtaposition, an intimate, living history anchored firmly beneath a towering future, both sharing the very same street.
