Love these client requests 😂
Top comments get mentioned in Pt.3!
Explanations:
1.
Asking for all the raw video files affects the production company's reputation and opportunity costs. The files would look grey and desaturated, and it's like serving you an uncooked meal (we are not comfortable not giving you the right experience.) If we risk improper handling of the footages by the client, (e.g. posting the unedited footage online with our names attached or getting an amateur to edit the video) it would result in our production's reputation being tarnished.
2.
Not all video cameras can take photos (some cameras have no mechanical shutters). The photos would look bad without the right accessories (e.g. external flash). We have a whole rig held by two hands we don't have a third hand to press a button. Shifting our mind to shoot a photo from shooting video footage is difficult as these are two completely different skillsets. So the result might end up being unsatisfactory.
3.
Often times, there are people who think they know better and they came up to us and said they were into photography in their young days and started lecturing us about videography. Thank you for your input, but the stuff we do cannot match the relevance of your information... hahaha.
4.
Music and sound design is 50% of the whole video. The video is mostly cut to beat, VFX and transitions often match the mood of the music. So changing the music just because of a change of heart or lack of consideration in the beginning would cost our time to change the editing completely.
5.
The composition of the horizontal video footage is mostly already aesthetically planned in mind nicely. To make it vertical is to crop out only the small middle section of the nice composition. The subjects would look too close for the viewer. If the horizontal video is shot in 1080p Full HD, the resolution would be affected too to become smaller, more pixelated & blurrier.
