Throwback to a chilly impromptu morning in Tijuana! I woke up on a normal Friday in LA with nothing to do, so I hit up my friend with a text “hey man, wanna go to Tijuana?”.
A few hours later and there we were! Tijuana is a unique place. It’s RIGHT NEXT to America, but couldn’t be a more different place. A mere 2 hours from home and you’re in a completely different culture.
Some people don’t give Tijuana a second thought, thinking it’s dangerous, but we couldn’t have had a more pleasant experience. From locals sharing cervezas on the beach to taco stands showing us why Tijuana has some of the best tacos in the world.
I think the best example of how great the Mexican people are is how they treat the very present border wall. The American side looks like a war zone. Rows upon rows of bar wire fences and patrol roads. On the Mexican side, the wall is painted with bright, friendly colors and families enjoy their beach right next to the wall. A boarder doesn’t have to be hostile.

According to Wikipedia (the infallible source) two 35 foot long Australian whales were shipped via train and released into The Great Salt Lake in 1875 as a tourist attraction.
Unfortunately, the salt content of this lake is nearly an order of magnitude higher than ocean water, sitting around 27% salinity... so it’s unlikely the whales survived, but locals still report the occasional sighting! (Nevermind the fact that whales only live 70-ish years 🤷🏼‍♂️).
Anyways, I didn’t see any whales, but I did have a whale of a time soaking in this sunset!

Unspoiled and remote, Black Sands Beach by Shelter Cove is one of the few remaining beaches in California that provides serenity and untouched solitude, and makes the perfect trailhead for the Lost Coast.
It is almost impossible to describe the ruggedness and beauty of this beach, perhaps the fact it was ranked the 7th most beautiful black sand beach IN THE WORLD speaks to how beautiful it is.
Fortunately, there’s only one paved road in or out of this beach, nearly an hour detour each way from highway 101 on aggressive grades and switchbacks, allowing access to only the most determined travelers and keeping the hordes of tourists at bay.
Visitors pass signs warning that this is NOT a swimming beach, and the waves certainly do not look welcoming. Massive riptides, a sharp off shore cliff, and SHARKS... this beach has taken more than a few lives. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it’s beauty from the safety of land. Just keep an eye out for the sleeper waves!

Good morning from Minnesota!
It’s easy to become spoiled from all the California sights, but rest assured, the Midwest is still putting on quite the show!
I’m spending this weekend in a beautiful small town called Wabasha on the Mississippi River and woke up to this SPECTACULAR sky.
I was caught a little off guard actually 😅 I peeked out the window not expecting much and then my jaw dropped. I immediately threw my shoes on and SPRINTED to the shore to snag this yummy sunrise 😍.

The really cool thing I love about photography is that it is a way to share a feeling with total strangers. It could be a feeling of wonder, or triumph... maybe happiness.
But in these pictures, I have a hard time describing what it makes me feel. Arriving at tunnel view in the complete darkness, knowing there is a view somewhere in front of you. All you can hear is the whisper of crisp wind far below you.
Then you start to see a faint pink glow on the familiar silhouetted horizon make out a faint haze at the base of the valley filled with trees below you. The warm glow of the sky is starkly contrasted by the blue shadows of the valley.
Then, suddenly, powerful beams of sunlight shoot across half dome and into the valley like a laser beam. It starts high, barely brushing the other side of the valley. But it pushes steadily down into the valley, awaking the small colonies of campers to the sound of the forest around them waking up.
Finally the sun lights up the valley floor and the valley begins it’s usual schedule. Cars coming in, hikers gearing up, campers fending off hungry chipmunks from their breakfasts.
It’s just another day. But this time I caught a glimpse at how each day starts in Yosemite. A rather normal day actually. There were no clouds for pretty colors, the waterfalls weren’t flowing as much as they do in the spring, and sunsets are arguably better pictures from this spot... but this picture reminds me of the feeling I got while watching Yosemite light up before me.
It reminds me that beautiful things happen every day. Literally every single day. It doesn’t have to be a special day that you planned or weather that is ideal. Just gotta keep an eye out for it and be ready to stop and take it in.

Yosemite Falls is one of the cornerstones of Yosemite National Park. It’s nearly 2,500 foot drop into the tourist filled abyss that is Yosemite Valley makes it one of the tallest waterfalls in the world!
Unfortunately, it’s ease of accessibility also makes it one of the most crowded waterfalls in the world as well. Photos of it often show hordes of people walking towards it like the Disneyland Castle.
Fortunately for me, I found it nearly empty for sunrise this past weekend! I even managed to scramble up the backside a bit for a more unique vantage point of these beautiful falls.
Oh, also apparently Yosemite Falls is haunted by Native American witches that would consume anyone who tried to take water from the falls... the more you know!🤷🏼‍♂️
