Great weekend freediving with Adam and Paul from I got some shots for Adam while he was teaching students AIDA 2 as well as SSI 1 in freediving.
We had a session in the pool on the Saturday covering the theory of freediving. Followed by a days diving and practicing the skills at
Managed to get a couple of shots despite the vis not being great. Will be going back in a few weeks time when hopefully the water has cleared up.
As you can see we found some friends in the water! Never seen so many crayfish.

Hawksbill Sea Turtle. Critically endangered but I’ve been lucky enough to bump into a couple of these guys while diving off the south of Cozumel in Mexico.
Sad that people still kill these animals to make boots from their hides and jewellery/ornaments from their shells!

Happy new year all!

Kingfishers have been pretty high on my list of things I want to photograph for ages. I just love the colours, they are such a beautiful bird. Only problem is every time I have seen one, they fly away before I can even get my camera out.

I went out for a walk yesterday and spotted 2 kingfishers, both moving around a little pond and not at all bothered by people walking by. It was difficult in pretty low light but I managed to get a few shots. After such a difficult year 2021 was. This is a great start to 2022. Hopefully this is a sign of a start of a better year!

Did you know that today is .

According to a number of studies, spending time outdoors in nature is believed to reduce stress and have significant benefits to our mental wellbeing. If you are feeling low, get yourself outside and practice mindfulness in nature.

I know that nature helps me. I have spent pretty much all of the week in the water around the Cornish coastline, testing out my new kit and looking for wildlife.

For me, there is something about water, whether it's the ocean, a river, a waterfall, just something soothing for the soul. I found that when I am in the water, I feel truly at peace. Does anyone else feel this?

Either way I hope you all had a great weekend, and just do what makes your soul happy!

PS - I got some great shots today with my new dive housing, which I'll share this week.

The urban and the countryside Fox also know as Vulpes Vulpes. Wait, Vulpes sounds strangely like a Pokemon name that looked like a fox right!? Anyone else make that connection or just me?

This is a social group that I have been to look for a few times this year and follow them since they had pups.

The main picture is one of the older Fox's in the group on the lookout for some food with one of the young adolescent pups from this years litter. They will likely stick together now for the rest of the summer and some of the group will move on and disperse in the winter.

Have you seen any Fox's in the wild? They are fairly common but they tend to be most active at dawn and dusk, so if you want to see them, get out early for your best chance.

Check this out! One of the new innovations in cleaning the ocean of its plastic, covering 1 football fields worth of ocean every 15 seconds!

Plastic is having more of an impact on our oceans and wildlife than we realise. It’s not just the obvious stuff that we see like the pictures of a turtle wrapped in plastic line. It’s the micro plastics that are entering our watercourses and being ingested by wildlife! This not only affects the animals at the bottom of the food chain, but carries on up to the larger predatory animals and continues through the food chain having such a detrimental impact on their health. Which is not always as obvious.

The thing is, we need to stop the plastic getting there in the first place, which is difficult when society is addicted to plastic! What is going on in some countries with plastic is ridiculous, but it is easy to blame other countries, but we need to look towards our own shores! So what can we do?

1. Try to be mindful of what we are purchasing. Maybe it’s a plastic straw that we will use once, or a metal one that could be washed. I know, straws are an easy example but how many other single use plastics do we use?

2. Through to what we buy in a supermarket, how are the contents wrapped? In multiple layers of plastic? Or can you get the same product in more suitable/sustainable wrapping? Corporations and governments act like they care, but what will really make them care is when it hits them in the pocket! We can affect this by choosing what we purchase and making them change their ways!

3. Litter - the amount of litter I see everywhere is absolutely shocking! We can’t just rely on government, we need to educate people! Kids get the blame, but it’s people of all ages offending! I see plenty of adults throwing stuff out of their car windows. Adults, teach your kids not to throw litter, explain the reasons why they shouldn’t do this! Kids, if your parents are the irresponsible ones and littering, tell them off! Explain to them what they are doing is wrong! If they continue, grass them up to someone like a relative or teacher and shame them into stopping!

4. Still litter - there are more and more groups of people in the local community who are doing voluntary litter picking! From litter picking in the park. To beach cleans. Take the kids for a couple of hours and get them involved. Share your experience on social media to encourage others.

There is loads of other things that we can do but I don’t want to ramble on too much in one post! We can simply help out by sharing and raising awareness of this plastic crisis and getting involved!

What do you think? Would you like to hear more suggestions on how we can help? Do you have any suggestions that you would like to add for others to see? Please let me know in the comments!
