Don’t get mad at me, but I sort of lost my appreciation for the spark that exists in this city.
I found myself not really excited or impressed with the same ol’ same ol’.
As hard as it is to believe, you can live in a place like this and still get sucked into the grind of life.
That is until last week…
One evening, I felt the urge to pick up a camera - not the camera I’ve been using most times when I have a paid shoot - but one that has just been sitting in my drawer, collecting the proverbial and literal dust.
I went out, even though it was already getting dark, and I let the light catch my eye. I followed what stood out to me, and I snapped photos.
I got out of my critical head, needing the pictures to be “perfect” (what does that mean anyways?).
Not all the pictures were great. And really, that’s the secret of (most) photographers… we snap many photos to both get the ones that make people say ‘wow’ and feel something and to get better at our craft. We experiment, and make microadjustments. This is what makes us better.
This is why I love photo walks.
That night last week, I returned home feeling super invigorated. My creativity had reignited. I was going to do more of this, AND I was going to create a space for others to do the same.
Right now, I’m building something to welcome others out to also expand their creativity as well. To use your camera (or phone), and capture our world from different angles, in new light, and how we each uniquely see the same ol’ same ol’.
If this sounds like something you’d like to participate in, I invite you to sign up for the waitlist. This lets me know that people are interested, and it’s worth offering.
Regardless of your skill level, we all get better by practicing. It’s a practice that’s added tremendously to my photography journey, and I hope for it to continue to do so.
If you don’t want to sign up but you like the photos, liking this post and/or leaving a comment is really helpful to get more to see this post . Thanks for reading. To sign up, see the comments.
