My journey in Asia began several years ago when I embarked on an enriching adventure that took me to South Korea, where I resided in Seoul for five years. Following that, I spent another 3.5 years in Tokyo. Time flew by, and in 2022, it was time for me to make a new home in Metro Manila, specifically in the vibrant district of Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Accompanied by my wonderful wife, daughter, and beloved Yorkshire Terrier, I embraced this new chapter.

Most people tell me the same thing when they arrive.

"I always look awkward in photos."

I've heard it from executives, lawyers, founders, people who've been in front of cameras their whole career. It doesn't matter. The discomfort is real.

So we don't start with the camera.

The first 15–20 minutes are just conversation and "fixing the lights". What's the photo for? What do you want people to feel when they see it? What have you always hated about your photos?

By the time the camera comes up, the session has already done most of its work.

The photo is a byproduct. The confidence is the product.

Some rooms have a different energy.

This was one of them — a packed ballroom in Tokyo,
a panel of people who'd earned every seat at the table,
and an audience that had travelled across the world
to be there.

My job in a room like this isn't to be seen.
It's to be invisible until exactly the right moment —
then make sure that moment is captured before it's gone.

When I first picked up a camera, I dreamed of the places I would travel to and photograph. Today, what drives me even more is the people I get to meet. Photographing people—especially creating studio headshots—has become one of the most meaningful parts of my work.

A headshot session is an intimate process. There’s nowhere to hide; the camera sees the real person. My role is to guide, connect, and bring out the confidence and authenticity in front of me. Helping someone look and feel great in their portrait is a privilege I do not take lightly.

And yes—I’ll admit it—it also feeds my ego in the best way possible to meet so many incredible, talented, beautiful individuals along the way.

Cuando empecé en la fotografía, soñaba con los lugares que visitaría y fotografiaría. Hoy, lo que realmente me impulsa son las personas que tengo la oportunidad de conocer. Fotografiar personas—especialmente crear headshots en estudio—se ha convertido en una de las partes más significativas de mi trabajo.

Una sesión de headshot es un proceso íntimo. No hay dónde esconderse; la cámara revela a la persona real. Mi trabajo es guiar, conectar y sacar a la luz la autenticidad y la confianza frente al lente. Ayudar a alguien a verse y sentirse bien en su retrato es un privilegio que valoro profundamente.

Y sí—lo admito—también alimenta mi ego, de la mejor manera posible, conocer a tantas personas increíbles, talentosas y hermosas en el camino.

2025 fue un año hermoso y transformador. Me mudé de Filipinas a México, conocí gente increíble y descubrí que la tortilla de maíz no se negocia y que los tacos de la calle son, sin duda, los mejores. Empecé a aprender un nuevo idioma—por ahora es Spanglish, pero espero que pronto se convierta en un español de verdad.

Mi hija habla con fluidez rumano, inglés y español. Cambia de idioma según la persona con la que habla, y eso me sorprende todos los días. Mi esposa tuvo el mejor año de su carrera, lleno de viajes y logros. Ella es mi roca, el pilar en el que me apoyo cada día. Gracias.

Claro, también hubo desafíos. Reconstruir una página web que estaba en la primera página en Manila para ahora posicionarla en la Ciudad de México ha sido un camino largo. Sigo traduciendo más de 60,000 palabras. Lo sé… una locura para la web de un fotógrafo, especialmente cuando ninguno de esos idiomas es mi lengua materna. Un reto a la vez. En unas cuatro semanas podré terminar la traducción y después actualizaré el tema para mejorar la velocidad en dispositivos móviles.

La fotografía se mueve rápido: nueva tecnología, nuevas cámaras, nuevo software y clientes que necesitan imágenes en tiempo real para sus redes sociales. Como profesionales, debemos evolucionar todos los días. La fotografía es un arte visual, y entrenar el ojo es esencial para mejorar y avanzar.

Creo firmemente que mi mejor fotografía será la que tomaré mañana. Pero cuando miro algunas de las imágenes que ya creé, me asusto un poco… y revivo el momento en que las capturé. Qué viaje tan increíble.

Vamos por un gran 2026.

2025 was a beautiful and transformative year. I moved from the Philippines to Mexico, met incredible people, and discovered that tortilla de maíz is non-negotiable and street tacos truly are the best. I’ve started learning a new language—right now it’s Spanglish, but hopefully soon it becomes proper Spanish.

My daughter now speaks Romanian, English, and Spanish fluently. She switches languages depending on who she’s talking to, and it amazes me every single day. My wife had the strongest year of her career, filled with travel and victories. She is my rock—the pillar I lean on every day. Thank you.

Of course, there were challenges. Rebuilding a website that ranked on page one in Manila to now rank in Mexico City has been a long journey. I’m still translating more than 60,000 words. I know… crazy for a photographer’s website—especially when none of those languages are my native one. One challenge at a time. In about four weeks the translations will be done, and then I’ll move to updating my theme to achieve faster mobile performance.

Photography moves fast—new technology, new cameras, new software, and clients needing images instantly for their social media. As professionals, we must evolve daily. Photography is a visual craft, and training my eye is essential to pushing my work forward.

I truly believe my best photograph is the one I will take tomorrow. Yet when I look back at some of the images I’ve created, I get a little scared… and I relive the moment I captured them. What a journey.
