🐋 Meet Frodo, the intrepid humpback whale that swam a record-breaking 7,000 miles from the Mariana Islands to Mexico! 🌏 This extraordinary journey has provided fascinating insights into whale migration patterns, showing us the wonderfully complexity of whale lives, international citizens who need healthy oceans to thrive. 🤔 Frodo’s story has just been featured in National Geographic, based on a research paper published today.
Between 2017 and 2018, Frodo not only set the distance record but also opened our eyes to unconventional migration routes. Through our Happywhale database, we've identified more humpbacks like Frodo, taking these remarkable trans-Pacific migrations. Over 117 individuals migrated from Mexico to feeding areas in Russia between 1998 and 2021. 🐋🌊
