Warm welcomes and thresholds to better days🗝️

The doors at 1 Hotel Seattle are adz-cut red cedar, framed in reclaimed tree bark.

Guests size up a space within seconds, and those first seconds color everything after. A doorway is where that judgment happens. It is the hinge between the street you are leaving and the room you are about to enter, and your nervous system reads it long before your conscious mind catches up.

The doors here are drawn from the woodworking traditions of the Duwamish longhouses that once lined Puget Sound. Heavy wood with visible grain reads to the brain as privacy, as separation, as somewhere worth crossing into. So when you pass under something this grounded, the whole space beyond inherits its gravity. You arrive, and your body gets the signal to exhale.

That signal is written in local materials. Bark, cedar, the mossy green of native planting. The welcome feels less like a lobby and more like being received by the landscape itself.

Life is fkn wild. Feelings that you can’t put into words consume your insides and clench your throat so tightly sometimes it renders you helpless.

As a creative, this all-consuming experience is what drives my work and the stunning human experiences I get to observe and help show the world.

To feel, to be human, is such a privilege, and it’s simultaneously terrifying. To keep your heart open, knowing that if you wall-off and close out the noise of the world, silence is its own kind of hell. To know that there will be tides so high you think you’ll drown, and nights so black you’ll wonder if you ever saw the sun, and STILL get up off your knees- that is the human experience.

Though I now serve the hotel and wellness spaces, I started my work with wedding and lifestyles, and this is truly one of my fave sessions to date with Autumn Thompson , Sean, and their dog, Tots.

What I’m saying here is it’s always a feeling- feelings motivate and intimate us, they stop us and make our feet pound the pavement sprinting for what we’ve convinced ourselves will ease it. And those feelings, those experiences, those spaces in time you couldn’t have predicted nor can you explain in hindsight, that is what I am here to mirror back to you. 🪞

I don’t gender the universe anymore, and I want us to retire the habit together. Whatever you call it, God, spirit, universe, “the great I Am,” or the great hum underneath everything. It was never a he. It was never a binary at all. The thing vast enough to hold every one of us was never going to fit inside a pronoun we invented to sort each other into two boxes to make our egos feel safe.

Why do I share this here? Because the clients attracted to my work already serve the world this way, they serve humans as just that- humans.

I have a master’s degree in education, and I left teaching to teach myself filmmaking off YouTube in bed at night. I did it right before my first baby and right before the world shut down, with no plan and a pull I could not explain.

Seven years and 200+ weddings later, I built a whole life around following what makes us human, and now I am starting a new chapter in the hotel and wellness world.

Intimacy and sanctuary are the emotional transition from the Seattle city buzz to the nostalgic retreat of The Lodge at St. Edward Park in Kenmore, WA.

The contrast of the soft forest pines and the structured brick arches immediately pull you into wonder and play- a down the rabbit hole vibe you can’t help but wander in.

Guests don’t want a drafty historic building but a refined comfort that still lends itself to character and sophistication with a side of play.

What I really mean is *capturing*

Your guests can feel the difference between a room that was decorated and a space that was built from empathy. In 2026 that very human centered instinct turned into the whole market.

Simon-Kucher’s 2026 travel research found that 58% of high-income travelers are actively planning a wellness-related holiday this year, and a McKinsey survey found 84% of Americans now place wellness high on their list of everyday priorities. People are no longer booking for the amenities list. They are booking for how a place makes them feel, for the room to breathe, for the quiet, and for the intentional care that tells them someone actually thought about them personally.

I have been photographing and filming spaces like yours since 2019, and I fly as a licensed drone pilot, and this year is the year I make sure every one of my clients is speaking from the heart.

What I’d do to be back in Europe having a café & ciggy…

A place that is ethereal to me is a coffee shop. The buzz of humans just waking up into their bodies, deciding where their day will take them. It’s such a magic space, kind of like the airport. Extra shot? Sure! Sugar on top? Absolutely. While I wouldn’t say they’re true third spaces in 2026, I sometimes dream that are. Everyone sitting down to enjoy a sip of something that warms their tongue and helps them pause. I want that for the world ☕️
