Progress is coming.

When I came back from Myanmar (Burma), 2 years ago and was asked to summarize my visit there it was pretty easy: "Smiling faces and golden pagodas". The last became a bit boring after a while, but from the first I couldn't get enough.

The country is poor and was just recently opened to the west. All the well-known companies are pouring in. Yes, now the people are earning more money and they can buy tablets and smartphones (jumping over ever having a computer or regular internet - the addiction is fast and shocking), and yes, the people may even live longer.
It might seem romantic and even a cliche to look at the 'poor and happy' but when you see these people in this faze of transition, it is clear that the special, childish, innocent look and smile you can still meet on people's faces (at all ages) is (not that) slowly, fading away.

On the way to Myanmar (some year and a half ago), I had one night in Bangkok. The color album from the tiny (8 km long and 1.2 km wide) and beautiful island of Boracay, Philippines. The island is mostly a honeymoon and leisure resort and most people usually don't leave the beach and their fancy hotels. However, a quick walk away from the beach takes you into the life of a poor but rapidly developing community. capitalism is doing its first steps on the island and people seem to adore it and any sign of a western world. a western-looking photographer who passed through their yards was no exception.
