Under it all, however, are the things that sustain us and bring us together: the privilege of witnessing things that others do not; an idealistic belief that a photograph might affect people’s souls; the thrill of creating art and contributing to the world’s database of knowledge. When I return home and rationally consider the risks, the choices are difficult. But when I am doing my work, I am alive and I am me. It's what I do. I am sure there are other versions of happiness, but this one is mine.

Text by Lynsey Addaroo, in the book 'It's what I do. A photographer's life of love and war'.

As I sit and reflect on the current state of the world, an inevitable overwhelming feeling comes to me.

The uneasiness and unstableness seem inevitable when trying to tune in and connect with the world around me. Disoriented in terms of knowing what to do, disturbed in terms of knowing what others are capable of and, moreover, apprehension in terms of knowing that the future holds.

However, it is in moment like these where a person can teach me of the goodness, truth and the mere essence of humans. Trust in our species can be easily lost if we read the news, however, the true verity is found of the streets. On people like you and me who are just trying to do their best.

I do believe in the nobility of souls and spirits way beyond the rogues and rotters who try very hard to be seen.

Let’s not get trapped by the idea of evil that suffocates us daily and turn our attention to those who do not speak as loud, but that however have much more wonderful things to say.

I always dreamt of going up a hot air balloon in Capadocia, who hasn’t really? When we were going up, I had no words to describe what I was feeling at that time. Not only the feeling of flying, but of doing so above one of the most special landscapes. I truly cannot express how grateful I feel that I can live this life full of adventures & stories to tell. These moments remind me that everything always ends up working out somehow.

A pretty good representation of what felt like the life in Goreme, Capadoccia. People were in no rush, you saw them sitting on a bench, on the outsides of their homes or really anywhere just for the sake of contemplating life passing by. No distractions, no need to talk or do anything, just plainly sitting down watching life go by. A very good lesson since we’re used to the rush and thinking that we need to be doing a hundred things in a day in order to be productive, when in reality, the mere act of just existing nowadays is, to me, courageous.
