When I was at Kendal showing this film someone asked me what my inspiration was for making it and the truth is it’s the same answer for all our family climbing films - these are the climbing stories I wanted to be told 8 years ago as a pregnant climber and then as a new mum.
The future I imagined and wanted to know could exist.
I craved stories of climbing as a family, representation, community.
I wanted to see more climbing films and stories told by regular climbers for regular climbers. By climbing parents for climbing parents. From small, doable weekend bouldering adventures to big, epic days on the wall in new places, exploring the world through the thing you love most with the people you love most. And as this become our life as a family on the road, two years ago I decided to start telling the stories and making the short films I so desperately wanted to see in the climbing world. And that road led to Kendal and an opportunity to share these stories with a wider audience.
This is the trailer from our short film The Crux of Juggling, I’m excited to see it land on the Kendal Mountain Player and tour now the film festival has wrapped.
As for our family of climbers and filmmakers, we’re working on next seasons films, currently in Spain before we head to Morocco and chase down new stories of climbing, family adventure and community impact to document there, forever juggling the crux of climbing, kids and cameras ☺️
Working on a big idea for next years round of festivals and can’t wait to share more as we go along!
