Nature’s living artwork – Lined Shore Crab 🦀

Spotted this stunning Lined Shore Crab (Grapsus albolineatus) along the rocky coast in Down South, Sri Lanka. These colourful crabs are masters of camouflage and incredible little athletes, constantly darting across slippery rocks as the waves crash in. Loved capturing all the tiny details and those vibrant patterns.

The Emerald Dove (Chalcophaps indica)

Ground-dwelling pigeon known for its striking emerald-green wing feathers. Often seen quietly foraging on forest floors and shaded paths, this shy bird feeds on seeds, fruits, and fallen grains. Despite its vivid colors, it prefers to stay low and blend into the undergrowth.

Brief Visit from the Honey Makers🐝

Most likely: Asian Honey Bee (Apis cerana)

These bees often form tight clusters like this when they’re resting during a swarm, protecting their queen while searching for a new nesting site. It's a completely natural behavior, and they usually stay only for a few hours to a couple of days, just like this group did in our garden

As important pollinators, Apis cerana play a crucial role in home gardens and agriculture, helping fruit trees such as mango, rambutan, and guava thrive. Despite their busy appearance, they are typically non-aggressive unless disturbed

Purple-rumped Sunbird (Female) – නිතඹ දම් සූටික්කා

Tiny, graceful, and full of energy, the Purple-rumped Sunbird (Leptocoma zeylonica), known in Sinhala as නිතඹ දම් සූටික්කා (Nithamba Dam Sutikka) or sometimes මල් සූටික්කා (Mal Sutikka), is one of Sri Lanka’s most delightful garden visitors. 🐦

This little female, with her soft grey-brown upperparts and pale yellow belly, may look modest compared to her dazzling purple-rumped partner, but she’s just as lively and charming.

You’ll often spot them darting among flowers, hovering delicately as they sip nectar, nature’s own tiny pollinators! 🌸
Endemic to the Indian subcontinent, this species is a common resident in Sri Lanka, thriving in home gardens, forests, and even urban greenery

Calm, quiet, and ever-watchful

the Striated Heron (Butorides striata), locally known as කඩොල් කොකා (Kadol Koka), is a small but skilled fisherman often seen perched on rocks or mangrove roots, waiting patiently for the perfect catch.
Unlike the larger herons, it prefers solitude, relying on stealth rather than strength. Its greyish-green plumage blends beautifully with the coastal rocks and waterways of Sri Lanka, making it a true master of camouflage
