𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: Science College pulled off a thrilling 37-36 win over spirited D. S. Senanayake College at Mt. Lavinia in a crucial Bowl Championship game of the Dialog Schools Rugby League, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA). Science College and D.S.Senanayake College played some entertaining Rugby, where no quarter was asked nor given with lead exchanging hands since hosts Science College started to score with a try early in the game. Senanayakians responded positively and took the lead with back to back tries but Science came back stronger to take the lead with a burst of tries after the scores were level. At Half Time it was Science in front with 24-17. The second half saw the ding d**g battle getting intense, first with Science extending the lead to 31-17 with a goal and then DS, cutting the deficit with a goal,24-31 and later with a try made it 29-31. Science with a penalty extended the lead to 34-29 only to see Donz fighting back and taking over the lead with a goal, 36-34. Game heading to the final passage of play, both relentlessly fought to close out the game with a win. Science succeeded in jumping to the lead with a penalty, 37-36 game is on the balance with just a few minutes left. Donz fought hard but couldn't find an opening as Science held their defense tightly and secured a nail biting win when Referee blew the final whistle.

𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: Thurstan College stun Sri Sumangala College, beat them 27-17 at Sugathadasa Stadium in a key Plate Championship game of the Dialog Schools Rugby League, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA). Thurstanites recovered after conceding a try to Sumangalians with the kickoff, down from 5-0 to lead by 22-10 at half-time. A try from S.K. Tharusha off a rolling maul, which was converted by their winger Akeesha Pushpakumara, followed by a penalty conversion by Pushpakumara, Thurstan College took the lead 10-5. Later, a try by centre Nehad Sallay, which was converted by Pushpakumara, Thurstan extended the lead to 17-5. Then Sumangalians hit back with an unconverted try from centre Maleesha Karunathilake to reduce the gap to 10-17. Then Thurstan skipper centre Ahad Sallay joined the party with a try, 22-10, Thurstan in firm control. In the second half, the game lost its intensity, with Thurstan in the lead and taking the foot off the pedal, while Sumangalians did not have enough fire power or lack of motivation to stage a fightback. However, Thurstan put the game beyond the reach of Sri Sumangala with their prop Tharusha adding his second try to put Thurstan in the driving seat, 27-10. During the last passage of play, Pasindu Bandara of Sri Sumangala, who scored the opening try, delivered the last try of the game, which was converted, 17-27, but it was too little too late as the Referee blew the final whistle, handing Thurstan College another good win and putting them in place for the Plate Championship.

𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: Ananda College, in a sensational win, beat S.Thomas’ College by 37-24 at Rajagiriya, in a key Plate Championship match of the Dialog Schools Rugby League, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA). Anandians, in their chase for the Plate Championship, took a mighty leap by bringing down Thomians, a victory over the school by the sea after 23 years. As expected, it was a close game, with the lead changing hands between the two sides after Anandians started to score first, winger Senuth Dinsara ging over for a try to lead by 5-0, and Thomians answered with a try through centre Archer Mendis, which was converted by flyhalf Mayanka Dias, 7-5 to STC. Anandians took the lead with a penalty by skipper and fullback Deneth Chamuditha to make it 8-7. Thomians then took back the lead with a penalty conversion by Dias, S. Thomas’ in front 10-8. Ananda centre Nethula Wijewardene ran through the Thomian defence to go under the posts, Ananda leading 15-10. Dinsara added his second try; Ananda stretched their lead to 22-10. Thomians fought back with their skipper McKyle Karunaratne crashing in to score a try which was converted; Thomians reduced the gap to 22-17. Anandians, with the courtesy of a penalty converted by Chamuditha, extended the lead, 25-17, and the teams went into halftime. Anandians stamped their authority after the restart with winger Sachintha Induwara scoring a try, 30-17. Thomians fought back with a driving maul and the gap was reduced to 24-30. Then, during the last passage of play, Anandians sealed the victory with Semal Wilamasuriya powering over to score, 37-24 and Referee Hasantha blew the final whistle, a historic victory for Ananda.

𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: Trinity cut loose and handed a crushing 48-15 defeat to Royal at the Royal College Sports Complex in the Cup Championship of the Dialog Schools Rugby League, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA). Royal College hosted their traditional Bradby rivals, their 2nd meeting this season before Bradby, and expected a better showing after being mauled by Trinity Lions earlier in the season at the President’s Trophy Finals by 58-26, and to bounce back after last week’s loss against Isipathana. It turned out to be a nightmare for Royalists as Trinitians, braving the underfoot conditions, ran circles around them from the kick-off, where Royal couldn’t find any answers. The defending League Champions were clinical and remained untroubled as they’ve been right throughout the season. Trinity, in the first half, took the game under their paws after their Skipper and fullback Shan Althaf opened the scoring with a penalty, and didn’t leave any room for Royal to counter. Tries started to come thick and fast with Naheel Jaya crossing first to make it 8-0 and then Centre Sadeesha Weerawansa went under the post to make it 15-0. Royal’s only consolation was flyhalf Shimak Shafeek putting over a penalty to make it 3-15. Thereafter, Trinity winger Minula Yaddehige and Flyhalf Abdul Malik touched down for two back to back tries and by the Half Time, writing was on the wall for a big win, 29-3 Trinity leading. The second half saw Trinitians accelerating, with Yaddehige, Akash Fernando and winger Dimath Ambepitiya crossing the goal line and the lead extended to 48-3. Royal found some consolation during the last quarter of play with Prop Okitha Mudunkotuwa barging over for a try, which was converted to make it 10-48 and then during the last 10 minutes Trinity lost two players due to Yellow Cards being issued by Referee Kalum Sandaruwan. Making use of the opportunity, Royalists added another try through Kavan Ekanayake, and with that, the referee blew the final whistle for Trinity Pride to move forward unbeaten, 48-15 win and one hand on the Championship.

𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: Peterites bounce back and beat Isipathana College by 29-25 in their 52nd encounter, and a key Cup Championship game at Havelock Park in the Dialog Schools Rugby League, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA). It was an enthralling game of Rugby as expected, keeping the crowd on their toes, Peterites playing some open, entertaining rugby though underfoot conditions were not conducive, while Isipathanians never gave up and fought all the way until the last minute. It was St. Peter’s College that started to score first with a try to lead by 5-0, and Isipathana College hit back immediately with a try from their skipper and No.8 Shaakib Zumri to level the scores 5-all. Isipathana intensified their attacks and managed to score once again through Shaakib Zumri, who scored another try to lead by 10-5. Peterites, after a few phases, hit back with Nethshan Manthusa running circles around the Isipathana backline to score a try, which was converted by Geon Rajith; the lead changed hands: SPC 12-IC 10. Peterites from there onwards took charge of the game, where Isipathana was forced to defend and also committed many offences. Taking advantage, Peterites scored through their fullback Senuth Dinsara’s an unconverted try followed with another by Nethshan Manthusha to go to Lemons with a commanding 22-10 lead. Isipathanias made a strong comeback in the second half, first by cutting the gap with a try by Dimsara Witharana to trail by 15-22 and then continue to add pressure by camping inside the visitors’ half. St. Peter’s changed their tactics by adopting a kicking approach and put the Isipathana backline under pressure. A passage of play went for about 20 minutes without any scores being added, but both sides were relentlessly fighting to take control of the game. Peterites then succeeded in scoring the decisive try through their flanker Lakindu Ranasinghe, at the right corner flag, which was converted by Rajith to give them a 14-point lead, 29-15. With a few minutes to go, Isipathana fought back with two tries and with conversions failing, it was too little and too late as St. Peter’s won the game by 29-25 when Referee Ishanka blew the final whistle. This is their 24th win in the series since 1963, against 25 wins by Isipathana, and most importantly, keeping the Peterite hopes alive going into the final two weekends of the Cup Championship.

𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: Prince of Wales College is hosting Kingswood College this Sunday afternoon at the Airforce Grounds, Ratmalana, in the Bowl Championship game of the Dialog Schools Rugby League, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA). Cambrians, after their close loss against Senanayakians, will be confident of a better showing against Kingswoodians, who are also coming after a good win over Mahanama College. It has been a tough season for the boys from Moratuwa, after getting promoted to the Top Tier. They failed to impress in the 01st Round, and now they are fighting for their survival and in search of a win. A win here would do loads of good for them, but they are up against a side that is peaking at the right time. Boys from Randles Hills had a forgettable 01st Round where they were in a tough group and lost some crucial games after promising starts. They lacked finishing, but Kingswoodians are not short of talent. They regrouped and are now on top of the Bowl and looking to build on their 02nd Round success. Can they see this challenge off, or will Cambrians find the courage to upstage them?
