The Vasa ship, housed at the Vasa Museum on the island of DjurgĂ„rden in Stockholm, is one of the best-preserved 17th-century warships in the world. Commissioned by King Gustavus Adolphus, the Vasa was designed to showcase Sweden's naval power. However, on August 10, 1628, the ship tragically sank just minutes into its maiden voyage, less than a mile from shore. Over three centuries later, in 1961, the ship was salvaged from the depths of Stockholmâs harbor and meticulously restored. The Vasa Museum now attracts millions of visitors, providing an extraordinary insight into 17th-century naval warfare, shipbuilding, and the Swedish Empire's ambitions.
