Scientific Name : Actinodaphne speciosa
Common name: අලි කන් / පොල්කටු [Ali Kan/ Polkatu]

A.speciosa is an endemic tree that grows in central highlands of Sri Lanka. It has huge tough leaves that droop when cold. Due to that reason, it is given the Sinhala name 'Ali kan' with the meaning of "Ears of elephant".

Lankathila Image house situated in Polonnaruwa ( Lankathilaka pilima geya) is a Gedige type large image house build by king Parakramabahu ( 1153- 1186 AD). The specialty in this structure is the two pylons at the entrance and the giant Buddha statue in side. This statue is 42 feet in height and building walls are 53 feet high. Koch Memorial Clock Tower, is located on Kynsey Road, Colombo next to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo. It was built in 1881 in memory of Dr. E. L. Koch (1838–1877), the second principal of the Colombo Medical School. It stands directly in front of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.
