Deir Saydet El Natour, overlooking the Mediterranean in Anfeh, is a historic Greek Orthodox monastery traditionally associated with the Crusader period.
Its name, “Saydet El Natour,” means “Our Lady of the Watchman,” referring to its coastal position overlooking the sea. The present monastery developed through Ottoman-era phases and was rebuilt in 1838 and restored in 1973 after it was abandoned.
Surrounding it are Anfeh’s historic salt pans, where seawater is traditionally evaporated to produce salt, an industry deeply connected to the cultural landscape of the area.
