I don’t usually shoot personal projects around insulated tumblers.

But the VSSL that got upsold to me by Todd at Fox Moto Rent set my imagination in motion.

Early January.
Cold enough that the wind cut through gloves.
At one point we were paddling at full effort and still moving backwards.

Rachael Faith braved it anyway.

And Charles, the Cole Island caretaker, invited us in for tea, biscuits and stories when we needed it most.

The goal wasn’t just product.
It was lifestyle.
Connection.
And layering a brand into a place I genuinely love.

Curious what you think.

A 25% discount on a VSSL cup led to a full-scale lifestyle photo shoot on Coal Island, paddleboards, wind, and unexpected momentum in Victoria BC.

From their favourite bars to their favourite cars, I had a blast shooting with Jack and Roxanne. 🍸🚗
They brought so much energy and style to this session — check out some of their top hangout spots around Victoria.

A laid-back Victoria engagement session featuring muscle cars, meaningful locations, and storytelling-driven portraits that reflect real connection.

Ritual.

Before the run, before the fight, before the day even begins — there’s this.

Stretch.
Focus.
Control.
A series of small, consistent movements that no one claps for, but everyone notices eventually.

This shoot started with a message and ended in silence. Just Sean, under the bridge, moving with the kind of clarity that only comes from doing the work every single day.

No hype. No crowd. Just a man showing up for himself.

The Shift.
Sean made a major change right around the time I left Korea in 2018. Back then, he was carrying a little extra — physically, sure, but also emotionally. Socializing meant drinking until the buzz took the edge off. Fitness wasn’t part of the equation.

Then life threw him a curveball. One of those moments that forces a choice: spiral or evolve.

Do you numb the pain, the anxiety, the anger, with food and alcohol?
Or do you channel it? Use the discomfort as fuel?

Sean chose the latter.
He leaned into movement. Into martial arts. Into discipline.
He replaced the pub with the pavement.
He covered his arm in ink — not as a rebellion, but as a record.

And he surrounded himself with people who call him to run, rather than run up a tab.

Well, I guess this moment was big enough to pull me out of a two-year Instagram coma.

After 7 years of loyal service — through rain, snow, -30°C snowbike rides, clouds of dust, and motorcycle vibrations that would loosen molars — my trusty EOS R has finally been retired.

It was my first mirrorless. Started as my main, then became my second shooter when the R5 came along. It never quit, never failed. But it was time.

Why?
Because I got spoiled.
The R5’s eye-tracking ruined me. Going back to the R started to feel like using a fax machine to send a photo. Focus was lagging. EVF was jittery. I started missing shots. And that’s where I draw the line.

So today I picked up the Canon EOS R6 Mark II — 15 minutes before a shoot.
Set it up on the subway.
Shot with it 30 minutes later.
And damn.
The autofocus? Unreal.
The viewfinder? Smooth as silk.
I found myself reaching for it over the R5. That’s never happened.

For the first time in years, my two bodies feel balanced. I’m no longer avoiding wide shots because my second cam feels like a potato. Today I wanted to shoot on both. That’s a win.

Oh, and shoutout to the Canon rep who threw in a discount, free screen protectors (including one for the R), cleaning cloths, and a pile of Canon stickers like it was Halloween.
Also: I saved $450 buying it here instead of in Canada. That alone makes me feel 23% more professional.

So far? Zero regrets.
Ask me again after I see the files.

Going to bust out the 20mm f1.4 Sigma Art today. It's a challenging lens to use, and a bit of a one trick pony, but it offers a truly unique perspective when you do get it right.

Always amazing to join the talented crew at Propaganda. When Chanel puts together a popup you know everything is going to be on point, set design, lighting, colour theory... EVERYTHING. The hardest part is working around the frenzy of celebrities, staff, security and press. Would you believe there are about 30 people in these 4x4m spaces just outside these frames?
