I was backing up old files to Eagle (incredible software for photographers, by the way - highly recommend) when I stumbled on something that stopped me in my tracks.

October 2016. One of my first paid shoots - the Annex at Plantation Hotel in Phnom Penh.
January 2024. The exact same rooms after their redesign. Same space. Same angles.

Looking at them side by side, I can see so many mistakes in that first set. The lighting. The composition. The post-production. My eye for how a space should be captured.

Over 7 years apart, and the difference is... humbling.

Here's the thing - I'm confident enough now to share the work I'm not proud of. That's growth too. Being able to look back and see how far you've come, and not be embarrassed by where you started.

Recently completed a photography project at Smile Boutique Hotel by EHM, located near the Virak Buntham bus terminal. The property's strategic location makes it convenient for travelers needing transport connections across Cambodia.

What I find interesting about this industry is the split in my client base - roughly half are major hotel chains (Marriott, Accor, Wyndham) and half are independent properties like this one. The approach for each is different but equally important.

Chain hotels focus on maintaining brand consistency across all their locations. Independent hotels need photography that captures their unique character and differentiating factors. Both face the same reality: potential guests make booking decisions within seconds based on visual first impressions.

The hospitality industry has become increasingly visual-driven. Hotel photography now serves as the primary sales tool, often determining whether someone clicks "book now" or keeps scrolling to the next option.

Working with properties that understand the importance of professional imagery - whether they're global brands or local independents - continues to be rewarding work.
