How Smoke Detectors Work:

Smoke detectors detect the presence of smoke particles in the air and provide an early warning of fire. The two most common types are ionization smoke detectors and photoelectric smoke detectors.

Ionization detectors contain a small radioactive source that ionizes air between two electrodes, allowing a tiny electric current to flow. When smoke enters the chamber, it disrupts the ion flow, causing the current to drop and triggering the alarm.

How Carbon (II) Oxide Detectors Work:

Carbon (II) oxide detectors, commonly called carbon monoxide (CO) detectors, detect the presence of carbon monoxide gas, a colorless and odorless toxic gas produced by incomplete combustion of fuels.

Most CO detectors use electrochemical sensors containing electrodes immersed in a chemical solution. When carbon monoxide enters the sensor, it reacts chemically at the electrodes, generating a small electric current proportional to the concentration of the gas.

How a CCTV Camera Works:

How a Digital Thermometer Works:

A digital thermometer measures temperature using electronic sensors such as thermistors, thermocouples, or infrared sensors. In most contact thermometers, a thermistor changes its electrical resistance depending on temperature. How Accelerometers Work:

An accelerometer is a sensor that measures acceleration, tilt, and vibration by detecting changes in motion. Most modern accelerometers are MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) devices containing tiny movable masses suspended by microscopic springs inside a semiconductor chip.

When the device accelerates or changes orientation, the internal mass shifts due to inertia. This movement changes electrical properties such as capacitance or piezoelectric voltage, which are measured and converted into digital signals by electronic circuits.

The sensor can detect acceleration along one or more axes (X, Y, Z), allowing devices to determine movement, orientation, and vibration. Accelerometers apply principles of Newton’s Laws of Motion, inertia, and microelectronics, and are widely used in smartphones, fitness trackers, vehicles, drones, gaming controllers, and industrial monitoring systems.
