PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
13th August, 2026.

RE: CLARIFICATION ON MISSION OPERATIONS AND RECENT MEDIA RUMORS

NAIROBI, KENYA — The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Nairobi wishes to address recent unverified claims and misleading reports circulating on social media regarding the alleged closure of the Mission due to rent arrears.

The Embassy wishes to clarify that the Mission remains fully open and operational. However, consular and administrative services are currently experiencing minor disruptions due to a localized power outage caused by a sudden electrical surge. Technical teams are actively working to resolve the issue, and full normal power supply is expected to be restored shortly.

Furthermore, the Embassy categorically refutes any reports suggesting official engagements, consultations, or arrangements between the Chargé d'Affaires and third-party political groups regarding embassy administration or financial operations. The Mission adheres strictly to established diplomatic protocols and official government procedures. Any claims alleging contact or offers of financial assistance to the Mission's diplomatic leadership are entirely unfounded and false.

Members of the public, media outlets, and the South Sudanese diaspora are advised to disregard unverified statements and rely solely on official communications issued through the Embassy’s recognized channels.

The Embassy appreciates the patience and understanding of the public during this brief inconvenience.

South Sudanese mother of quadruplets held in Kenyan hospital over unpaid bill

A South Sudanese mother and her three surviving newborn children have reportedly remained at Kenyatta Teaching and National Referral Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, for months over an outstanding medical bill of KSh 8.5 million, equivalent to about US$66,000.

Arual Ring Majok, who hails from Twic County in Warrap State, was admitted to the hospital in April 2026 after doctors discovered that she was carrying quadruplets in what was described as a delicate pregnancy.

Arual later delivered four babies, with the newborns placed in incubators for specialised care. One of the babies unfortunately died, while the remaining three were later discharged but have reportedly not been allowed to leave the hospital because of the accumulated bill.

The body of the deceased child is also reportedly being held by the hospital over the unpaid medical costs, preventing the family from proceeding with the burial.

According to documents seen by Hot in Juba, the outstanding hospital bill has reached KSh 8,500,000, and continues to increase as Arual and her three children remain at the facility.

Speaking to Hot in Juba, the Twic Community youth leader in Nairobi, Aguek Biar Mawien appealed to the South Sudanese government, well-wishers and members of the public to come to the family’s assistance and help settle the bill so that the mother and her children can return home.

Those wishing to support Arual can send contributions through her M-Pesa number: +254 117 472229.

For inquiries and further information, the Twic Community youth leader in Nairobi, Aguek Biar can be reached on +254 757 186260.

The family is appealing for urgent assistance as the hospital bill continues to accumulate.

South Sudan’s embassy in Nairobi, Kenya has reportedly been closed again over unpaid rent arrears.

A similar incident occurred in November last year when the landlord locked the embassy’s premises over unpaid rent, reopening it only after the outstanding amount was settled.

The latest development has once again left many South Sudanese seeking consular services stranded and unable to access essential services.
