FASHION IN MOTION | KIBERA | MARCH 2026
In Kibera, creativity lives in every corner. The narrow paths, the iron sheet homes, the noise, the movement β everything feels alive. Many people see Kibera as a place of struggle, but when you slow down and look closely, you see something elseβ¦ style, talent, and strong voices.
Kibera is full of artists.
Designers. Musicians. Painters. Photographers.
Young people who create with what they have, and still manage to stand out.
This shoot was not planned to be perfect.
It was planned to be real.
Morning to afternoon, the place is always moving. Small biashara open early, people cooking by the roadside, boda bodas passing, music from different corners, kids playing football in tight spaces. Life is close, fast, and very connected.
You donβt walk far without greeting someone.
You donβt stand long without someone asking whatβs going on.
Thatβs the Kibera we found.
Then Mary Yala stepped into that space in a denim outfit by Looker Cooker. No big setup, no controlled environment. Just her, the streets, and everything happening around us.
And honestly⦠it worked.
The denim picked up the dust, the light hit different on the iron sheets, people paused to watch, some laughed, some hyped, some just continued with their day but still became part of the frame.
Nothing was quiet.
Nothing was staged too much.
Thatβs what made it beautiful.
Kibera has its own rhythm.
It has struggle, yes⦠but it also has style, creativity.
