Safari Diary: Nyandarua Range
Mount Kinangop (or Ilkinangop) is a mountain in the southern Aberdare Range. The range it self is 160km long in west central Kenya, northeast of Naivasha and Gilgil and lies just south of the Equator.
A dormant volcano, Kinangop overlooks the Kinangop Plateau to the west and the Great Rift Valley beyond. Kinangop is the second-highest peak at 3,906mt in the Aberdares after Ol Donyo Satima 4,001m. The lower levels of the mountain have extensive bamboo forests. Higher up it is covered by tussock grasses. The main peak is a rocky outcrop surrounded by open moorlands and is considered one of the most challenging summits to conquer.
