NEXT SEASON
Arsenal fans saying “next season” is basically a mix of humor, frustration, and hope built over years.
Here's all it stands for:
1. Long wait for major success
Since Premier League title win in the 2003–04 season under Arsène Wenger, Arsenal F.C. haven’t won the league again. So every year starts with hope… and often ends with “we’ll do it next season.”
2. Rebuilding cycles
The club has gone through several rebuilds—new managers, young squads, tactical changes (especially under Mikel Arteta). Fans believe progress is happening, but it just hasn’t fully clicked yet.
3. Close but not quite
In recent seasons, Arsenal have come very close to winning the league, especially competing with Manchester City. When you come second or fall off late, it naturally leads to: “we’re almost there… next season.”
4. It became a meme
At this point, rival fans use “next season” to tease Arsenal supporters, and Arsenal fans themselves use it jokingly to cope.
5. Football culture in general
Every fanbase has some version of this, but Arsenal’s long gap + high expectations made it iconic.
So it’s not just blind optimism—it’s years of “almost” turning into a running joke.
Will Arsenal actually have a real chance this season or if it’s… another “next season” 😄
