It’s going to be a bit jaguartastic on my feed for a while yet I fear…. Apologies if you don’t like jaguars (although, who doesn’t?!) Radio traffic had been pushing us to leave the cub from my last post which eventually and reluctantly we did. Whilst the cub was a real highlight I’m also very glad we made it to see brother and sister subadults in golden light. Pantanal Norte, October 2024.

Back from Brazil with a full heart and hard drive. This little 3 month old cub was one of no fewer than 42 individual jaguars seen during our time in the Pantanal. Thanks to all my fellow travellers and especially to More to come as the deleting gets underway!

The Whakarewarewa Forest of redwood trees in Rotorua is a joy to wander through with a camera- from the tiniest mushroom on the forest floor, and the shafts of light piercing the shadows to the dizzying overhead canopy of the tallest trees

Time in New Zealand with some clear skies enabled us to play around with star trails. This was an overnight series of shots from a hotel balcony in Kaikoura! Living in central London means astro photography is impossible and getting all the stars aligned (pardon the pun) for clear skies, no moon and a good subject and direction is tricky on short holidays. Just a beginner at all things Astro but it’s a fun new type of photography for me!

By climbing through the undergrowth & up a ridge I managed to get eye to eye with this gorgeous Diademed sifaka who is remaining cheerful despite being considered critically endangered. Perinet in Andasibe National Park is now one of the only places they can be found. Oct 23.

The lowland streaked tenrec. Possibly one of the oddest but most endearing creatures Ive encountered. Like a cross between a shrew and a hedgehog scuttling home in the rain after a big night out…. They are endemic to Madagascar and quite amazing in that they rub their spines together to emit an ultrasonic buzzing noise that humans can’t hear. They also move super fast making them a pain to photograph!
