Hidehiro Otake's photo exhibition:"To the North. Northwoods and Alaska”
Fascinated by nature, Hidehiro Otake set out in his twenties to explore the “North Woods”—a lake district in North America—in pursuit of wolves. As a photographer who has carefully captured every encounter along his journey, he has spent more than 25 years documenting the wildlife and the lives of Indigenous peoples in this region, which has rarely been featured in Japan. This exhibition features 110 works, including pieces from the photobook "Northwoods: The Land That Gives Life"—which won the Ken Domon Award—along with new works and photographs from Alaska taken while tracing the footsteps of photographer Michio Hoshino for a documentary program. “Time flows slowly in nature, regardless of human intentions,”* says the photographer. This exhibition presents, through his photographs, the journey of his life and his dialogue with nature.
*the photographer originally said his words in Japanese.
