“ Dear Morioka University students,
I know it must have been tough in the rain, but congratulations on winning the top prize!
The first day of the Morioka Sansa Dance Festival. Despite the heavy rain that continued to pour down, Morioka University's performance continued with the drumming without flinching.
Their powerful voices and smiles, which were not drowned out by the sound of the rain, filled the venue with excitement.
The performance that won the top prize was a moving moment that will be etched in the hearts of many.
The Morioka Sansa Dance Festival is one of Tohoku's most representative summer festivals, held annually from August 1st to 4th in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. To the chant of "Sakkora Choiwayasse," dancers in colourful yukata (👘 summer kimonos), along with drums and flutes, parade through the streets in perfect unison. A highlight of the festival is the "Grand Circle Dance" held on the final day, where tourists can join in the dancing.
🥁 It is also known as the "World's Largest Drum Parade," and the awe-inspiring sound of the drums and the powerful performances captivate many people.”
