Since the 90s there hasn't been a single Japanese sumo champion, the sport has been totally dominated by foreigners. That was until earlier this year, when Kotoshogiku (not in the picture) bucked the trend to become the first homegrown wrestler in over a decade to win one of the top tournaments. This has created a bit of hype around Japan's national sport recently and there's a cautious hope that this will start to turn things around and attract a new generation of locals to the ring.
