Manfred Heitling debuts his Japanese photo history book in Tokyo with Ryuichi Kaneko:

Sept 29, 2017, Tokyo, Japan: World renowned designer and photo historian Manfred Heiting debuting his most recent book "The Japanese Photo Book: 1912 - 1990" during a lecture at the Daikanyama Photo Fair 2017. This lecture included co-author Ryuichi Kaneko who himself is the one of the foremost Japanese photo historians in the world. Such a treat to see these two greats from diverse backgrounds come together to talk about their collaboration. This massive tome of a book is the tell-all reference book on this subject and includes over 500 publications and according to Heitling has approximately 3500 illustrations. Photo by Torin Boyd.

Sept. 16, 2017: Japanese photo historian Naomi Izakura during her gallery talk at Axis (portraits of Shimooka Renjo on screen). For this lecture, Izakura detailed Japan's first commercial photographers from the early 1860s including Ukai Gyokusen, Shimooka Renjo and Ueno Hikoma. Axis Photo Marche Tokyo image fair day 1:

Sept. 15, 2017: Legendary Rock photographer Masayoshi Sukita during his gallery talk at the Axis Photo Marche image fair in Tokyo. In the early 1970s Sukita went to New York and London and photographed among others, Mark Bolan of T-Rex, Iggy Pop, Jimmie Hendrix, Andy Warhol and David Bowie whom he formed a close friendship with. He also photographed Bowie's 1977 iconic Heroes album cover. The Axis image fair runs from Sept 15-17. Photo by Torin Boyd.
