On my way home from running an errand, I saw a bear crossing a field near my house. I pulled over and watched as it ate from the bird feeder. I got some mediocre video on my iPhone e. I drove home and grabbed my camera and went back. It was still behind the house. I knocked on the door to tell the homeowner about the bear, but before I could he told me to be careful because there was a bear in his backyard. He invited me in to try to shoot from his deck, but the bear ran off. I went outside to see where it had gone and luckily it was enjoying the birdseed for a long time before running off. Here’s one of many images of this amazing sighting.

These are the same image of a relatively boring bird, but something about it caught my eye. They are cropped differently. Which do you prefer?

I love photographing loons. Their colors can be so vibrant and the black and white pattern just lend themselves to striking images.

This was the first animal I photographed this weekend. The rainy conditions this morning mean that I slept in rather than try to be out on the lake before 6 am like I did yesterday. As I sit comfortable and dry, editing photos, on this Memorial Day, I remember and honor those who gave their lives for our country and freedom.
