For months I’ve had the honour of documenting a historic journey for the Ahousaht Nation of Tofino partnering with legendary carver Kelly Robinson on Vancouver Island.
The raising of the totems at mux̣ʷšiƛa (Hotsprings Cove) is not just a reminder of the sovereignty of their territory, but a visual document of the family histories of this region; standing proudly to welcome guests from around the world as they walk gently along sacred land.
With hours of footage from interviews, carvings, raisings, and ceremonies, I can’t wait to share it all with you soon. For now, here are some of the stills I delivered to the amazing stewards of the MHSS Stewardship Guardians who made this all possible.
