ダイブシャングリラでの取材もラスト！
相変わらずの南風で今日も野原曾根へ！
透明度があまりよくなく、ギンガメとバラクーダは探すのが難しい。。。
深いけど下の方が透明度はいいから根の潮あたりがいいところに行ってみるとマ、マダラトビエイが15枚程密会をしていた！
でも俺の存在に気づいた瞬間にすぐに3手に別れてしまい咄嗟に手前の子達にフォーカスを合わせてゆっくり近づいた。
ものの10秒くらいの出来事だったけど、なんとか撮影ができた！
最後の最後に風の神様が「南風が強くてごめんね〜その代わり仲のいいお友達を呼んでおいたよ〜」っていう事だったんだ！
本当に最後の最後にラッキーでした！
風の神様ありがとう！
ほんで写真をよく見返すと、初日に出会った尻尾が変形してる同じ個体が混ざってた！

しかし、今回はGTがよくウメイロモドキの中にまじっててカッコよかったな〜！
今回は野原曾根をたっぷり満喫した撮影となりました！

The final day of shooting with Dive Shangri-La!

The strong southern wind continued, so today we headed to Nobaruzone again.
Visibility wasn’t great, making it difficult to find the big schools of trevally and barracuda…

Since the visibility was better deeper down, I decided to check around the reef where the current was hitting nicely—and then… wow. Around 15 spotted eagle rays were having a secret gathering!

But the moment they noticed me, they quickly split into three groups. I instinctively focused on the closest group and slowly approached them.

The whole encounter lasted only about 10 seconds, but somehow I managed to get the shot!

It felt like the wind god was saying,
“Sorry about the strong south wind… but I invited some good friends for you instead.”

What an incredible lucky moment right at the very end.
Thank you, wind god!

And when I looked back at the photos carefully, I realized one of the rays was the same individual we saw on the first day—the one with the deformed tail!

Also, GTs mixed in with the schools of yellowtail fusiliers looked incredibly cool throughout this trip.

This shoot turned into a full-on Nohara Sone experience!

昨日は海を休んで西表島の陸を少し撮影。
野鳥が呼んでいたので少しジャングルへ行ってきましたが鳥は難しいですね。。。
さて、今日は気持ちを海モードに戻して元気よく行って参りました！
沖縄の梅雨明け！？を示す「夏至南風（カーチバイ）」という季節風の様な南西風が連日吹いており南側には行けないので今日も野原曽根＆トカキン曾根へ。
この前野原曽根で潜った時に「浪人鯵（ロウニンアジ）」が多かったので今日はグッとアプローチして撮影しようと決めてました。
なんか近くで見るとまるでハンターらしい表情をしていてカッコよかったです。
顔周りのキズは獲物に突っ込んだ際に出来たものだろう。
35m付近でリラックスしてたので近づいても全く動きませんでした。
そして今日は前回よりはいい感じのギンガメの群れがいましたが、どこかにもっと大きい玉があるんだろうな〜
ほんでトカキンは潮がいい感じに流れてて気持ちよくサメ達と一緒に泳ぎましたよー
日本でこんな感じでグレーリーフシャークを見れるポイントはなかなかないですよ〜
水温も27度で天気もいいので気持ちよくダイビングできました！
後は風の神様！もう少し弱まってください！
明日も元気に行ってきます！

Yesterday, I took a break from diving and spent some time photographing the land of Iriomote Island.
I heard birds calling, so I wandered a bit into the jungle, but wow… bird photography is hard!

Anyway, today I switched back into ocean mode and headed out full of energy!

A seasonal southwesterly wind called Kaachibai (夏至南風), which signals the end of Okinawa’s rainy season (maybe!?), has been blowing strongly for days, so we couldn’t head to the southern sites. Instead, we dived at Novarusone and Tokakinzone again today.

The last time I dived at Nobaruzone, there were a lot of giant trevallies, so today I decided to get in close and really focus on filming them.

Up close, they looked like true hunters — such intense and powerful expressions.
I imagine the scars around their faces were earned while charging at prey.

One of them was relaxing around 35m deep, so even when I got close, it barely moved.

We also saw a better school of bigeye trevallies than last time, although I still feel like there must be an even bigger school hiding somewhere!

At Tokakin Sone, the current was flowing nicely, and it felt amazing swimming alongside the sharks.

There are not many dive sites in Japan where you can see so many grey reef sharks like this.

The water temperature was 27°C, the weather was beautiful, and it made for a really comfortable dive!

Now, dear wind gods… please calm the wind down just a little more!

一昨日の大瀬崎の一コマ。
「よし！今日はガッツリマクロやるぞ〜」
なんて、張り切って新しいマクロ用の完璧なセットアップをしたんだけど、太陽がカンカンに大瀬崎の湾内を照らしていたので何も考えずにワイドのカメラだけを持って入水。
今年はホンダワラの密度が濃い気がするので太陽キラキラ中、ホンダワラを撮影をしていると目の前にアオリイカが！
どうやらホンダワラに産卵をしている様だ！
産卵の邪魔をしない様に撮影させてもらおう！
まずは信頼を築かなければ！
最初はあまり撮影をせずに、メスに「僕はあなたを食べませんよ！」という姿勢を見せてじっくり彼らが信頼してくれるまで時間を作ります。
少しすれば信頼してくれて産卵が始まりました！
なんとも感動的なシーンなんでしょうね〜
それにしてもアオリイカの目ってこんなに青いんだ〜

A moment from Osezaki the other day.

“Alright! Today I’m going all-in on macro!”
I was super motivated and had prepared a perfect new macro setup. But the sun was shining brilliantly over Osezaki Bay, so without thinking too much, I entered the water carrying only my wide-angle camera.

This year, the density of the Sargassum seaweed feels especially thick, so while I was filming the glowing seaweed under the sparkling sunlight, an Bigfin squid suddenly appeared right in front of me!

It seemed they were laying eggs in the Sargassum.

I wanted to film them without disturbing their spawning behavior.
First, I had to earn their trust.

At first, I avoided filming too much and tried to show the female,
“I’m not going to eat you!”
I spent time quietly observing them until they began to trust me.

After a little while, they relaxed around me, and the spawning began.

What an incredibly moving scene it was…

And by the way, I had no idea the eyes of an Bigfin squid were this blue.

随分と投稿が遅くなってしまいましたが、先日海の一コマ。
福井県音海の若狭湾で出会ったサクラダンゴウオの幼魚。
初めてナイトダイビングでダンゴウオを撮影したけど、めちゃめちゃ観察しやすい！
夜行性なのでいっぱいいた！
ちょっとハマりそう！！

A juvenile lumpfish I encountered in Oto-mi, Wakasa Bay in Fukui Prefecture.
It was my first time photographing lumpfish on a night dive, and they were surprisingly easy to observe!
Since they’re nocturnal, there were so many of them.

I might be getting hooked on this!
