The typical Tokyo summer called for 35°C (95°F), 80% humidity, and a 100% chance of someone saying “YES.”
If you can survive proposing in weather like this—and still manage to get a heartfelt “YES!”—your marriage is already off to a pretty strong start. Congratulations to these two legends! 💍🥂

So far, it’s been the mildest summer Tokyo has experienced in 14 years thanks to El Niño (the opposite of what’s happening in Europe)! The weather has been unseasonably lovely—we haven’t even needed to turn on the air con at night to get a good night’s sleep. We hope it stays this way, although August is Tokyo’s hottest month, so air con at night is inevitable, even with El Niño. 😆

This unseasonably mild weather has also made our photoshoots so much more enjoyable, without the usual oppressive heat and humidity. Here are a few sweet moments we’ve recently captured through our lens in Tokyo. The agapanthus are now in full bloom!

A beautiful balmy day in May suddenly turned into a downpour that no weather forecast could predict. We only got a warning on our phones once the rain clouds rapidly formed and approached in no time on the radar. As we love the reflections that rain brings to the city, we kept shooting — and had an absolute blast! 😄

Here’s a heartwarming elopement session from last week.
May in central Tokyo is such a beautiful time for elopements before the city slips into June’s rainy season — when it doesn’t always rain, but the weather forecast becomes useless — followed by the relentlessly hot and extremely muggy days and nights of July and August (especially August!).

Back in Tokyo and straight back behind the camera to capture another unforgettable “Yes!” moment in the heart of the city. There’s something very special about photographing surprise proposals — the nervous excitement before the question, the split second when everything changes, and the raw emotions that unfold afterwards. No matter how many proposal shoots we document, every couple brings a completely different energy and story, which is what makes this kind of photography so meaningful: witnessing a once-in-a-lifetime scene unfold in real time.
Being trusted to preserve such an intimate chapter of someone’s journey together is something we never take for granted.
