Tokyo Street Food
My daughter and I took a day to explore photo spots around Tokyo. What a fun day. We stopped at 5 different locations. This one is called Omoide Yokocho in the Shinjuku district. The whole area is only 5 feet wide and 50 meters long, but it is world famous for its street food, and as a photo opportunity. I really liked the atmosphere captured in the shot... if only I could convey the wonderful smells too ☺️

This place was so photogenic. The main challenge was trying to catch a moment without people walking through. It’s busy and narrow.

I was really happy with the processing in Snapseed.

Some days are disappointing when it comes to results. This day, however, was satisfying all around.

This will be featured, along with a couple other shots from this day, in an upcoming YouTube episode.

Neighborhood Shrine. My daughter helped me shoot for my upcoming debut YouTube episode. She was a trooper to put on a yukata on a cold day. We didn’t get the colorful sky that we were hoping for, but the setting sun really brought out the reddish color of the old wood.

These kinds of settings often make me feel like I’m missing “the shot.” My brain is telling me that there are some amazing photos just waiting for me to discover them. On this day, although I got a few good shots, I didn’t get that knock-your-socks-off shot.

That is one of my biggest self-challenges; training my camera eye to see the photographic potential in any particular scene.

What about you? Do you ever feel this way? What do you do in these situations?

End Of The Day At TheEnd Of The Pier Pismo Beach Pier. I really like the way each person, or small group, appears animated in their own experience; like a tableau.

I was tempted to darken the silhouettes to the point of blackness, but I liked leaving just a bit of light on them in order for them to not just be cardboard cutouts.

This scene didn’t look very impressive to me when I first started to consider it. But, once I saw it through the lens, I really started to appreciate it ... it just kinda came alive.

I was a little bit obvious and shy taking this surfer’s photo as he exited the water. But he was really cool. He asked me to send him a photo. When I sent it to him later, after processing it in Snapseed, he was totally stoked.

I wanted to get a shot when he was closer to me. That way his silhouette would have been larger, and I think the photo would have been more dramatic. However, he kept angling toward the pier, and that messed things up.
I was able to crop in just a little, and I think that helped bring more focus on the surfer.

You can see the original shot, and the processed shot.

When taking photos with an iPhone, as compared to a DSLR camera, we are fairly limited in how much we can crop, before we loose the sharpness in our photos. Therefore, it is always important to try and frame our shots, as best we can, as we are taking them.
