“I wanted to give something back.”
Or what photography means to me.
Meet Sara and Diego.
Sara works as an OS in the rehab “gym” of the spinal unit at the hospital where I was hospitalised for 6 months, and then continued coming back for another 6 months during my recovery.
So I’ve known her for about a year.
And believe me when I say it’s a heavy job.
Every day she meets people in very different and often difficult conditions,
young and old, desperate and hopeful, but very often angry, anxious, lonely and confused.
And still, she walks in with a smile that somehow makes everyone else smile too.
You don’t even know what she is about to tell you.
It might be updates about Marco Mengoni or stories about her pet pig,
but somehow you just know it will make you smile.
And despite all the light she gives to others,
she doesn’t see how beautiful she truly is.
I just wanted to show her what we all see.
And honestly, it has always been my dream to photograph a couple who has been together for decades.
I wanted to give something back.
Usually I guide my couples on what to wear so everything fits the location perfectly.
But this time I didn’t want to interfere.
Not even a little.
I just asked her to bring a couple of her favourite photos from their wedding,
and we went to their own cherry fields, which are unbelievably beautiful.
And that’s what we got.
And even though everything around us was full of color,
this story feels black and white to me.
Because black and white is not about color.
It’s about time.
About a story that is 30 years long.
About love that stays.
Of course it was awkward for them at first, which is completely normal,
but seeing them smile and hearing that this felt like their second wedding melted my heart.
Okay, I’ve probably written too much already.
Hope you enjoy this series 🤍
