I've photographed proposals in almost every corner of Venice — and the ones that stay with me were never about the most famous view.
The couples who trusted me with something quieter — a hidden garden, a boat at first light, a candlelit room set just for the question — got a moment that felt like them, not like a spot everyone already has saved on their phone. Sometimes it's the smallest, most private corner of the city; sometimes it's a whole evening built from scratch. Either way, it's yours.

A few places in Venice turn magic in the rain — and this is one of them. Most people run for cover; here, the grey light and the sound of water on the leaves are the whole point.
It sits behind the walls of a convent on the Giudecca — a real working garden, where things are actually planted, tended and grown, the way they have been here for centuries. Not a postcard, not a monument. It isn't famous, so I had it almost entirely to myself: just rows of green quietly doing their thing, the rain, and the kind of calm this city rarely lets you feel. There's real history in this place, and something to learn in it too — it's the sort of Venice that asks you to slow down and pay attention, and gives a lot back when you do.
Afterwards I had a couple of very rich cicchetti in a tiny bacaro nearby, the kind of ordinary, local Giudecca moment I love most. I'm not telling you to go — I'm just showing you the Venice I know, the one that's still alive under all the ones people come looking for. 🌿
