On October 3rd, the streets and squares of Italy filled with voices, colors, and hope.
More than 2.000.000 people marched across the country to stand with Palestine and the , calling not only for peace but also for action.
Here in Venice, over 25,000 people walked together across the Ponte della Libertà, the Bridge of Freedom, blocking for few hours the main entry to the city.
An important demonstration, a river of people moved by the desire for peace and freedom for Gaza. Flags, songs, the sound of drums, the voice of people of all ages, united by a single hope:
No more war. Respect human rights. Free Palestine✌️🇵🇸

It has been a great 3rd October. Here in Venice we were more than 25,000 people, children, students, workers, all together, singing ‘Free free Palestine’ and blocking the main entry to the city: ‘il ponte della Libertà’, the Bridge of Freedom for a few hours. A symbolic and meaningful location for this important day of national strike for solidarity with the palestinian people.

Today, at the port of Venice, a group of activists from tried to block the departure of the container ship MSC Melani III, moored at the Fusina terminal and accused of carrying weapons destined for the Israeli military that instead is not allowing the Global Sumud Flotilla to bring humanitarian aids and food as honey and peanut butter.
It’s time to put an end to this, to say enough, to stop the supply of arms to Israel. We can no longer keep feeding more crimes and violence against the Palestinian people.
Free Palestine! Stop Genocide! 🇵🇸

On September 22nd, Italy rose up in solidarity with the Palestinian people and the Global Sumud Flotilla.
A day of strike, a river of people united by the dream of justice.
At the port of Venice, more than 15,000 people gathered to tell our government that silence and inaction can no longer be an option.
It’s time to stop indifference, the silence, the complicity with war criminals, it’s time to stop the Palestinian genocide.
No water cannons can’t stop the thirst for justice, freedom, and dignity.

Yesterday afternoon, during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, the Lido became the stage for a collective outcry: “Stop the genocide, Free Palestine.”
A colorful march — about 5,000 people according to police, while organizers spoke of over 10,000 — filled the Lido with chants, Palestinian flags, and a ferry carrying 700 activists who had arrived from Marghera.
The demonstration, promoted by 200 organizations including community centers, the Anpi, and Venice4Palestine, aimed to break the silence surrounding the humanitarian blockade and the violence in Gaza, turning the spotlight on Western responsibility and complicity.
Symbolic moments made the message even stronger: hundreds of paper boats decorated with the Palestinian flag laid on the square’s pavement, an act of solidarity for the , a cordinated, non violent fleet of mostly small vessels that in these days are sailing from the ports across the Mediterranean to break the illegal siege on Gaza by sea, opening a humanitarian corridor to stop the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.
The Venice Film Festival, a stage of glamour and celebrities, became a platform of denunciation, honoring those who have lost their lives, defending press freedom (considering that during the conflict more than 250 journalists have been killed), and standing for human rights that continue to be trampled.

Ready to get off at the Lido for the big march.

This summer i met Monica Poli, better known as lady pickpocket. I spent few hours accompaining her along the streets and squares of the city to document her work.
She is the founder of in summertime she is working everyday as volunteer and gained widespread recognition for her constant efforts in allerting tourists to the presence of pick pockets throughout the city.
Since 2023 she patrols the center of the city, especially near tourist hotspots, like the Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square.
She told me that, at the moment, there are different groups of pickpockets mostly coming from the east of Europe counting around 400 stealers moving around other cities like Rome and Florences.
She knows them by name and she can recognize her faces but for them there the risk is low and the gain is high because, here in Italy, pickpockets act with a sort of “impunity” because of the Cartabia Reform that turned pickpocketing into a crime with almost “no consequences” because in order to proceed with an investigation the reform requires a formal complaint from the victim but many tourists don’t bother complaining because normally the process take long time and its complicated.
Pratically thieves take advantages of gaps in the law and ordinary people, like locals and tourists, have no real protection.
Monica Poli continues her battle with her committee organizing demostration, despite she has been phisically assaulted or threatened, in order to reinstate ex-officio prosecution for pickpocketing.
For her it’s not just about defending Venice, but about defending justice itself: a law that effectively protects criminals cannot remain unchanged.
She gained widespread recognition and her work is supported not just locally but internationally.
