Adriatic Storm — Caorle, September 18th 🌩️🌊

A late-summer evening over the Adriatic, with a thunderstorm developing offshore in front of Caorle.

From the pier, the storm slowly revealed its structure in the darkness, illuminated by powerful lightning strikes reaching down toward the sea. The contrast between the calm horizon, the rough cloud structure and the bright flashes created an incredible atmosphere.

One of those evenings when you don’t need to chase the storm — the storm comes to you.

STORM CHASING IN EASTERN VENETO 🌩️🌊

A long and challenging storm-chasing day across Eastern Veneto, shaped by a complex interaction between Scirocco and Bora, with their convergence providing the ingredients for repeated convective development along the coast.

The chase was far from easy. Continuous rain, poor visibility and constantly changing conditions made every move difficult, forcing to constantly adapt position and strategy.

During the nigh and early morningt, an intense thunderstorm moved across the area, producing an impressive amount of lightning activity and rain (>100mm in 2 hors). The storm also generated a waterspout over the sea, briefly emerging from the turbulent environment offshore.

Then, during the second part of the afternoon, the convection became even more interesting. A marginal supercell developed along the rear flank of the storm, repeatedly producing waterspouts over the Adriatic Sea.

Difficoult flooded roads, heavy rain and long periods of waiting for rain free minutes—but ultimately a remarkable sequence of storms, lightning and waterspouts along the Veneto coast.

Eastern Veneto once again proving how fascinating the interaction between the Alps, Adriatic Sea, Scirocco and Bora can be.

🌩️ Storm chasing is not always about the perfect setup. Sometimes it’s about being there when the atmosphere decides to surprise you.

Last night delivered one of the most spectacular weather displays of the summer. ⚡️🌩️
A supercell crossed the plains between western Friuli and eastern Veneto, showcasing an impressive structure with a rotating base, near-continuous lightning, and stunning rain curtains illuminated by countless flashes.

Hours of waiting, observing, and photographing to capture the raw power and beauty of the atmosphere—always with the utmost respect for the forces of nature.

July 15, 2026 – Between Ferrara and Comacchio 🌩️

A storm chase that started with high expectations and quickly delivered. During the first phase of the chase, ahead of the main storm front, we intercepted several positive cloud-to-ground (CG+) lightning strikes, producing spectacular bolts in an increasingly electrified atmosphere.

Just minutes later, the storm revealed its full power. A magnificent shelf cloud swept across the plains, accompanied by a highly turbulent base and stunning layered cloud structures that looked almost sculpted into the sky.

Every chase is different, but days like this remind me why it’s always worth pursuing severe storms.

🌩️ Storm Chasing in Northern Italy – An Unforgettable Day 🌩️

Last Wednesday, June 10th, delivered one of the most rewarding storm chases of the season across northeastern Italy.

During the afternoon, I intercepted a powerful supercell thunderstorm over the Upper Treviso area, displaying an impressive rotating structure, a dramatic wall cloud, and intense precipitation cores. The storm later produced large hail, damaging wind gusts, localized flooding, and significant impacts to agriculture and infrastructure across several areas.

As the day progressed, the atmosphere continued to deliver. Near sunset, a second photogenic supercell emerged against a spectacular golden sky, creating an incredible contrast between the warm evening light and the dark, rotating storm base.

To conclude the chase, a stunning roll cloud developed along the storm’s outflow boundary, advancing across the landscape like a giant atmospheric wave and marking the arrival of cooler air behind the storm.

Three remarkable storm structures in a single day: a classic supercell, a sunset supercell, and a dramatic roll cloud. Days like these are a reminder of both the beauty and the power of the atmosphere.

⚡️ June 2, 2026 | Rovigo → Adria, Italy ⚡️

There are days when you don’t simply chase a thunderstorm. You chase an idea, a signature of the atmosphere. This was one of those days.

Chasing storms means placing yourself at the exact point where physics and beauty meet. A delicate balance of respect, caution, and awe.

The forecasts hinted at an environment supportive of severe weather across southern Veneto, but seeing a storm like this materialize before your eyes is always something different. Something no weather model can truly capture.

Across the plains between Rovigo and Adria, an impressive supercell emerged: a massive rotating base suspended over the fields, fueled by a powerful and persistent inflow, while the precipitation core unleashed torrential rain, hail, and damaging wind gusts beneath its most active sector.

For long minutes, I stood watching the atmospheric engine at work. Rising currents feeding the mesocyclone, sculpted cloud formations shaped by intense wind shear, and dramatic contrasts of light turning the Venetian countryside into a scene straight out of the American Great Plains.
This is the atmosphere at its most spectacular: powerful, elegant, and untamed.

The mesocyclone of a powerful supercell dominating the Venetian sky like a giant mothership.
An incredible rotating structure, perfectly shaped by wind and atmospheric energy.

Shortly after this shot, the storm unleashed destructive wind gusts, large hail, torrential rain and intense lightning activity, causing flooding and damage across parts of eastern Veneto.

Moments like this remind us how overwhelming nature can be.
