Radicate is a non-profit organization that focuses on research executed in the field of contemporary art and culture, situated on the Savona Campus (University of Genoa). Radicate analyses global changes through a contemporary art lens. Our office is located in the Smart City, which is part of the Savona Campus where Environmental and Energy Engineering department is developing the first example o

f a smart energy, micro-grid. The university campus is therefore an exemplary laboratory in developing of the futuristic Smart City, where art and culture will also carry an important role. Radicate.eu conducts conversations with key figures, active in the field of contemporary art, in order to comprehend global shifts through the standpoint of contemporary art. These conversations are realized with the use of new digital media technologies that enable the construction of a global network. We are attracted to the immaterial, sustainable and intimate use of these forms of communication. The number of conversations, which augment with time, are made readily and permanently available on our on-line platform. Pertinent questions emerge during these conversations, which we conduct with key figures of the contemporary art world, that are indicative of our times in addressing global issues. The most urgent questions (sustainability, migration, climate and geopolitical change) are ultimately developed within the context of transcultural and interdisciplinary project that also include experts in the field of engineering and science. These projects are materialized in the form of events that address both the territory in which the project was conceived as well as the international, research community that it references.

Thank you dear Marinella Senatore for the time of this conversation with me. With English subtitles.
A multifaceted personage, artist and activist, has conquered the international art scene. In this conversation she gives us some pointers to look forward to in her project for the SMAC Gallery in Cape Town (South Africa), where she will be working together with PussyRiot, the Russian feminist collective.

I am honored to present the conversations published on our web platform www.radicate.it with three artists introduced to me by friend and colleague Olu Oguibe. Ted Efremoff, Colin McMullan and Lani Asuncion have decided to retreat from the pressures and preoccupations of New York careerism, in order to develop more intimate works related to local cultures and rural traditions, but also to challenges and fears which face communities in globalized societies. Olu Oguibe refers to these artists as representative of The New Connecticut School.
In the meantime, Oguibe himself has been invited to documenta 14 Athens and Kassel this year. We have asked him to discuss with us about the works he is showing at both venues. You can follow our online conversations on our platform.
I hope you enjoy the depth of the artworks we are presenting to you today. My profound thanks goes to Olu Oguibe whose intellectual sensitivity and vision led him to pay attention to these artists’ practices and share them with us.
The photographs attached are: Lani Asuncion, Ted Efremoff, Colin McMullan, and Olu Oguibe, Monument for Strangers and Refugees, 2017, at Documenta 14th, Kassel.
