The fifth edition of the international contemporary art fair ROMA – The Road to Contemporary Art will take place on May 25-27 2012, in the spaces of MACRO Testaccio (press conference, preview and opening on May 24 from 12:00).
The dates for ROMA 2012 were selected in accordance with MAXXI and MACRO Museums and with the many public and private institutions in the city in order to encourage visitors in those days to attend openings and to participate in an extensive exhibition program of international relevance.
On the occasion of the upcoming edition, ROMA 2012 will present a current selection of art professionals able to create a seductive experience for the many enthusiasts of the Roman fair
ROMA-The Road to Contemporary Art 2012 offers participating galleries three options:
The Fair – This section is reserved for contemporary art galleries already prominent on the international art scene.
Startup – This section is devoted to young cutting-edge galleries, founded after January 1, 2007, with a recognized activity devoted to experimental artists. Their specific project for ROMA must be limited to no more than three artists. The selection of the projects is again in this edition entrusted to Luca Cerizza, a curator living in Milano and Berlin. The Fair intends to facilitate the youngest galleries, offering a fixed fee for participation of Euro 4,500 for a 20 square meter space and five nights of hospitality in a hotel.
Out of Range – This is an outdoor exhibition of large-scale works of sculpture, installation, performance and projections installed in the spaces external to the Fair pavilions. Chris Sharp, a writer and independent curator based in Paris, is responsible for the invitation and selection of the artists for this section. Participation in Out of Range is free of charge and reserved for galleries exhibiting in the Fair.
The rich and exciting program of collateral events is still being defined and like the previous editions will involve a large number of artists, curators, museum directors, invited to participate in the great Roman contemporary art celebration.
