Posted • Usman Kaleem] The city of Samarkand has been at the crossroads of world cultures for over two and a half millennia and is one of the most important sites on the Silk Routes traversing Central Asia. Timur chose Samarkand to be the capital of his vast empire, and during his relentless campaign of conquests, would bring back skilled artisans from his Victories and use them to transform Samarkand into the jewel of his kingdom. Babur, one of the direct descendants of Timur, Struggled to gain a foothold in his ancestral land — which he won twice and lost. As a result, Babur found himself laying siege to Kabul, and during his 20th birthday, became the master of the city which was known for its strategic position on the Silk Road. This In turn would soon allow Babur to fulfil his lifelong dream of conquering Hindustan.
