I found out about Anna only in 2019 (shame on me!!!), when she followed Triptykon, playing their “Requiem” suite, at 013 during Roadburn.
I was there expressely to see Triptykon, and Sleep also were a main attraction for me, but who really knocked me off my feet was Anna, then touring in support for her majestic “Dead Magic” album. Her diminutive frame was inversely proportional to the seismic sound she and her band created on that stage, and that left me speechless. So much so that, only a few months later, I catched a flight to Manchester to see her open for Sunn O))) at Albert Hall. Post-COVID, I followed that with a organ-only date in Bern.
It comes with it that I couldn’t miss her in my hometown, where I also managed to grab some photos, courtesy of Tom Millbourn Malmros. And yes, she blew me away once again, and I expected nothing less of her.

Unfortunately, Ulrik was right behind Otis, and Filip was in a pretty dark corner, constantly surrounded by haze, so no pics of them! ☹

ND never disappoint with their onslaught of extreme music but -with all due respect to Matt Sheridan, I really hoped to see Shane Embury handling the lower end.
Also, by the time I made it to the merch booth, all of the kittens tees were gone. 😿

Almost exactly a year after their latest outing in Milan, ZU tore apart Santeria 31 again!
Hot on the heels of their crushing new album "Ferrum Sidereum", they steamrolled all over the packed venue with their uncategorizable brand of sonic mayhem.
ZU are guaranteed to satisfy every single time, and this time I carried with me a lens more fitting for the venue.
Low lights required a healthy helping of noise reduction tho, because ISO were quite high.

Dark Angel only played Italy once, in Genua, Florence and Rezzato.
I attended the latest gig and, after they razed the venue to the ground, I had a chance to interview Gene "The Atomic Clock" Hoglan for the mag I was writing at the time, "Hard!"
We went on for more than an hour, starting with how the tour was goin', how it was playing without Jim Durkin (substituted by Viking's Brett Eriksen) and his thoughts about the freshly released "Time Does Not Heal", but it didn't take long before the conversation veered towards s*x, po*******hy and extreme movies, making for an extremely interesting and unusual interview.
I got back home, transcribed the whole thing and faxed it to the mag. It didn't take long for the editor to call me back and tell me that the whole thing was unpublishable because of the very explicit content.
They had this weird idea that the mag could also be read by "la casalinga di Voghera" ("the average housewife"), so it shouldn't be controversial nor deal with "shocking matters": pretty odd for a metal mag, and one of the reasons why I didn't last too much there.
Unfortunately both my notes and the cassette got lost somewhere, because it really was a kick-ass interview. Although I'm not too sure Gene wouldn't blush, re-reading what he said that night. 🤣

Pics were taken with a Pentax ME Super, likely with a Pentax-M 40-80mm f2.8-4 zoom, with Ilford 640 slide film. I definitely used a flash, because the venue had four spotlights, and that was it!
Slides were later scanned at 6400dpi with an Epson Perfection V600 and cleaned up in Photoshop, using the "Dust and scratches" tool for the backgrounds and the clone tool for the main subjects.

It's been 36 years since Megatherion's last live appearance, so it was with great expectations that I drove to Bologna to see my ol'd buddy Daniele hit the stage with a vengeance, and three new, younger musicians.
I was definitely not disappointed and it was great to listen again to the songs that made "BSM" one of my fave demos ever.
Onwards now!!!

PS: I really, really like the "80's zine"-like band photo. 🙂

Yet another crushing Sunn O))) concert, even though "concert" is a pretty limited word for what this duo is all about.
Music gets palpable, both on aural and physical levels, and being front row makes it even more so.
On the other hand, what's also palpable is the photographers' pain: 15', during which three fog machines fit for a Tool stage, engorge a venue about as large as Tool's drums-riser. Which, coupled with vertical led lights on the edge of the stage, make for a deadly combo of nothingness on stage. Absolutely apt for the experience, totally abysmal for taking pics.
Only decent ones are of Greg, who ventured to the front for a few seconds before being engulfed by fog until when shooting time was over.
I tried to go sorta "artsy" on some other shots to try and recover something but I can't say I'm really happy with the results.

This said, when they're in town, don't miss them. And, in the name of Tinnitus, BRING YOUR BEST EARPLUGS!!!

An unbridled and unstoppable fury as always.
And, as always, they didn't have any t-shirts in my size! 😭🤣

The lens (50-100) was completely wrong for the venue, to which I hadn't been to for some time, and the position wasn't the best either, but that's how it it shooting from the audience. Therefore, I could only catch Massimo in very close details; Paolo could only be caught by placing the Nikon on the stage between the monitors, pointing more or less in his direction (or raising the camera above my head for a second, hoping that he'd be in focus, rather than the cymbals or stands). At least Luca was far away and gave me a little more leeway.
Oh well, a few turned out half-decent anyway.
