14 years since our wedding, and we still go back to our photos.
Maybe that says more about why we do this than any introduction ever could.
We’re Sonja and Ivan - husband and wife, and the two people behind Paspartu.
We’ve been photographing weddings together for years, but being on the other side of the camera came first. We know what it means to look at a photograph long after the day itself has passed and suddenly remember something small: the way someone looked at you, the people who filled the room, the nervousness before the ceremony, the feeling of being surrounded by everyone you love.
That is what we look for when we photograph a wedding.
We love beautiful things - fashion, architecture, light, thoughtful details - and they inevitably find their way into our photographs. But we’ve never believed a wedding should feel like a production made for the camera.
The photographs we care about most live somewhere between intention and instinct. A beautiful portrait, but also what happened just before it. A perfectly considered detail next to something wonderfully imperfect. The grand moments, and the almost invisible ones.
Our work has changed over the years, just as we have. It has become quieter, more observant, more cinematic. Less interested in making everything look perfect, and more interested in making it feel true.
Because eventually the flowers are gone, the clothes are carefully stored away, and the day becomes a story you tell.
And the photographs are how you get to go back. At least we do.
Thank you to our dear friends for capturing our moments back in 2012.
