Illegal wildlife trade of pangolin scales smuggled from Africa to Asian countries is decimating African populations faster than we can comprehend. To date, no data is available on any of the pangolin populations on the continent due to the elusiveness of the species and the habitats they live in. Help us raise awareness for the worlds most trafficked mammal on World Pangolin Day 20th February 2021.

In “Blood Scales” we filmed the arrest of local wildlife traffickers by authorities from the Ministry of Forests & Wildlife and seized over 200KGs of scales destined for Asia.

The stench of rotten and burnt flesh fills the air on a Saturday morning at the capital’s bushmarket. on Saturdays, poachers bring in fresh meat from places like the Dja Wildlife Reserve. As Camerun's biggest,
oldest and centrally-located reserve, the Dja can be hardly protected in its entirety. Little funds and complict authorities contribute to an illicit business as usual trend. Both protected species and non-are laid out dead. Genets, Pangolins, monitor lizards, boas, monkeys, porcupines and duikers. THIS bushmeat in not eaten for survival, but rather out of choice by urban west-africans

What a thrill to be so close to them, so imposing yet fragile, curious yet wary, shameless and respectful of their family. I can relate to them and love them in spite of their difference.

Che emozione trovarmi così vicino a loro, così imponenti ma fragili, curiosi ma attenti, senza vergogna e rispettosi del branco. Io così simile per comprenderli ma un po’ differente per amarli.

Oil palm plantations as far as the eye can see. They take the best rainforest in the world and change it into a sterile landscape of palm oil with brutal efficiency. Anything alive in its way gets crushed, killed and discarded. An ecological and biological Holocaust. Our cheap, throw away lifestyle is tearing down our life support system: rainforests. We are in dire, urgent need of a radical transformation of our economy from linear to circular, where nothing ends up discarded or wasted.

Deforestation it has been happening for thousands of years, arguably since man began converting from hunter/gatherer to agricultural based societies, and required larger, unobstructed tracks of land to accommodate cattle, crops, and housing. It was only after the onset of the modern era that it became an epidemic.

One of the most dangerous and unsettling effects of deforestation is the loss of animal and plant species due to their loss of habitat. 70% of land animals and plant species live in forests.
