Prelude is an interactive installation whose physical and conceptual focal point is a red jasper stone - a unique, naturally occurring gem, one of the largest in the world. Its shape, color and placement symbolize a heart giving off kinetic force - that of a heartbeat. A pulse which beats within the walls and manifests itself through the works of art on display. In developing Prelude, DUSKMANN dre
w inspiration from the world of stones and sought to realize through photography a meticulous analysis of its individual elements, entering an abstract dimension which is in constant evolution. Each of the photographed veins runs through the piece like a natural continuation of the jasper's creative energy. The photograph is the soul of this treasure chest, which has been carefully designed so as to be not simply a shell, but an integral part of the work itself. The linear grooves in the glass visible on the front of the pieces form a geometrical pattern which links them together through a multiplicity of junctures. The pieces are modular and can be placed together in any number of ways. DUSKMANN's aim is not to impose upon the public a predefined reading of the installation, but to leave to the viewer complete freedom of interpretation, which might lead to the creation of an "alternate layout" and, consequently, an intimate, personal vision. The rear of the pieces has been designed with special care to ensure that they can be appreciated from every angle. Here, set into the body of the work is a real piece of red jasper. In this way, those purchasing a piece symbolically receive not only part of the installation, but also a portion of the heart itself. Obsessive experimentation and passion animate DUSKMANN's work, driving it ever onwards towards unique new realities - realities to be molded by the bold, assured aesthetic which unites the group.
