He is the ocelot.
His coat looks as though it has been painted: rosettes, spots, and stripes create a pattern that is unique to every individual. But that beauty is not there to be admired.
It is a coat designed to disappear into the forest.
When night falls, his large eyes gather what little light is available, while his sensitive hearing picks up sounds that we would probably never even notice.
A movement among the leaves.
A small animal hiding nearby.
A sound in the darkness.
He can climb, he can swim, and he can move through his territory leaving behind scents and signals that other ocelots know how to read.
And perhaps his most beautiful secret is precisely this: he can be there without ever being seen.
We can walk through a forest believing there is nothing around us. And yet, somewhere among the leaves, a pair of eyes may have been watching us long before we even imagined they were there.
Nature is not empty just because we cannot see it.
Sometimes, we simply haven't learned where to look yet. 🐾
