LIFE IN A SLUM
About 1.5 million people in Kolkata (1/3rd of the total population) live in slums. Kolkata has hundreds of slums, or urban agglomerations where the poorest classes of the population live, made up of dilapidated shacks made of cardboard, wood or sheet metal. Many of them are located along the tracks of railway lines. The inhabitants, elderly people, women and children live their day along the tracks, moving lazily as the trains pass. People is generally friendly and curious with foreigner photographers. We loved them.
