Studies reveal that the spatial frequency distribution of the tiger's coat matches the complex pattern of light and shadow of its habitat. Furthermore, because their prey—unlike humans—are dichromatic (and so unable to distinguish green from orange), the tigers are extremely well-camouflaged against a forest backdrop. Unfortunately, this has not prevented from pushing them to the brink of extinction. Today, populations are recovering in certain areas, particularly in Nepal. In this context, it is also important to remember that tiger conservation must be pursued with respect for the human rights of the communities sharing the same territory.
The tiger is one of the stars of the "Vanishing Beauty" section of our Il Panda Siamo Noi exhibition, which can still be visited at Reggia di Caserta.
