It rained every day while we were in Lofoten. No chance of seeing the northern lights BUT we got to see rainbows, every day multiple times a day. Here is the view of Hamnoy during a brief respite from rain.

This image is from one of the most photographed locations in Lofoten, Norway and one of my favourite images from a 5 day trip in Norway. It rained heavilty throughout the trip, and although we were not lucky enough to see the northern lights, we expereienced beautifully moody and atmospheric views interspersed with brief moments of sunshine and rainbows.

Venice Carnival 2023

Venice Carnival, an annual festival held in Venice, Italy, typically during the weeks leading up to Lent. The carnival dates back to the 12th century and was originally a time for people to indulge in lavish feasting and merry-making before the austere period of Lent. During the carnival, people wear elaborate masks and costumes, attend masquerade balls and parades, and participate in various cultural and artistic events. The masks worn during the carnival are an iconic symbol of Venice, and the tradition of wearing them dates back to the Renaissance era when they were used to allow people to mingle anonymously and break social barriers. The carnival was banned by the government of Venice in the 18th century, but it was revived in the 1970s and has since become one of the most popular festivals in Italy, attracting tourists from all over the world.
