🇮🇹 Il pellicano riccio, noto scientificamente come *Pelecanus crispus*, è una specie affascinante che si può trovare nelle zone umide e costiere dall’Europa sud-orientale fino all’India e alla Cina. Questa specie è caratterizzata da un grande corpo e da un becco distintivo, lungo e appiattito, con una sacca gulari prominente. La sua pelliccia è di un bianco puro con un leggero riflesso dorato, mentre durante la stagione degli amori sviluppa un caratteristico piumaggio in cui le penne sono arricciate, da qui il nome “riccio”.
Questi pellicani si nutrono prevalentemente di pesce e sono noti per le loro tecniche di pesca cooperative. Possono essere visti in gruppo mentre si tuffano in acqua per catturare le loro prede. I pellicani ricci sono migratori e tendono a spostarsi tra le zone di nidificazione e le aree di alimentazione, il che li rende parte integrante degli ecosistemi acquatici.
Sfortunatamente, il pellicano riccio è considerato una specie vulnerabile a causa della perdita di habitat, inquinamento e disturbo umano.

Its plumage is pure white with a slight golden sheen, while during the breeding season, it develops a characteristic feathering in which the feathers are curled, hence the name “curly.”
These pelicans primarily feed on fish and are known for their cooperative fishing techniques. They can often be seen in groups as they dive into the water to catch their prey. Curly pelicans are migratory and tend to move between nesting areas and feeding grounds, making them an integral part of the aquatic ecosystems.
Unfortunately, the curly pelican is considered a vulnerable species due to habitat loss, pollution, and human disturbance.
